PARENTING COACH AND EDUCATOR

Three Big Ideas of Peaceful Parenting

Peaceful Parenting is a term coined by Dr. Laura Markham. It is a relationship-based parenting philosophy that uses gentle yet effective methods to raise children. Dr. Laura Markham is a clinical psychologist and the author of several books, including Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids.

In Peaceful Parenting, we raise our children with calmness, love, compassion, and kindness while also setting firm limits. We do not use punishments, rewards, bribes, imposed consequences, or time-outs where children are left alone to “calm down and reflect” on their behavior. However, it is important to emphasize that peaceful parenting is not permissive parenting. We set limits and stick to them - we just do so with empathy and kindness. Is it possible? Absolutely! Not only it is possible, but it is also highly effective.

Mindfulness or regulate your own emotions

One of the most important skills we can develop as parents is the ability to calm ourselves and manage our own emotions. When we stay regulated and composed, our children, in turn, learn to calm down more easily. They also learn from our example how to handle their big feelings. Instead of yelling, threatening, or punishing, we work on staying calm, recognizing our emotions, pausing before reacting, and responding to our child with love and compassion.

Coaching instead of controlling

The only person we can truly control is ourselves. Instead of trying to control our children, we focus on guiding and teaching them. We accept their emotions, help them process their feelings, and set limits with both empathy and firmness. This way, children learn to want to do the right thing - not out of fear of punishment, but because they develop an inner desire to make good choices.

Connection instead of correction

Children follow our guidance when they feel deeply connected to us. This bond is the true “magic wand” of peaceful parenting and the key to reducing challenging behaviors. Spending quality time together and strengthening our connection daily has a powerful impact on our relationship and helps prevent misbehavior. And from that connection comes the joy and fulfillment of parenting! While it may sometimes feel like investing in connection is hard work, the rewards come quickly. It is always worth prioritizing!

Justina, mother of 2

Before reaching out to Dovilė, I felt like the ground was slipping from under my feet. I couldn’t communicate with my kids, I kept raising my voice, and their constant “not listening” was driving me to despair. I knew I needed help.

Dovilė helped me understand why this was happening and gave me insight into my children’s little world—their emotions, their needs. I’m beyond grateful for her guidance. She is a dedicated and compassionate professional who explains everything so calmly and clearly, using real-life examples. I especially appreciated how she encouraged me to step into my child’s shoes, to truly understand their emotions and why they react the way they do in certain situations.

Dovilė is the kind of person who can bring hope and clarity to any parent feeling lost on their journey. Wishing her all the best, and a huge THANK YOU!

Rimantė, mother of 2

At the end of this journey together, I want to express my gratitude for the time we spent exploring and growing as a mother. It was truly valuable to receive your insights—some very practical and easy to implement, others more open-ended but deeply enriching in the long run.

Personally, I have struggled with self-criticism and being too hard on myself, so I’m especially grateful for the way you helped me expand my perspective and find a path toward embracing my imperfections—as well as the imperfect moments of parenting.

I genuinely feel like a calmer mom after this course—both outwardly (asking myself, “Is this really the end of the world?”) and internally (with much less overthinking every little detail and learning to let go of what’s truly not important). Less guilt, more joy!

Thank you once again—wholeheartedly recommending this to other parents!
